Serbian ChurchCinderella (One of Serbian Versions)

It was once, in a beautiful small town lived a beautiful girl. She was called Mara. As the other girls, she took cows to the food. The girls turned also wool. On the meadow was a deep pit. A day an old man, that led, said them: '' So certain of you spindle falls in the pit, his mother will become a cow'.' The girls smiled and approached to the pit. A spindle of Mara of day belonged to the pit. When she returned to the house his mother had become the cow. With the other cows, Mara took it to the food.

After a father of Mara of time married. His woman has a girl. She was uglier, more devilish and more jealous on the beauty of Mara. She and his mother hated Mara. They did not allow it to buy new things, have a shower. After a time ash covered the clothing of Mara and they gave him a nickname Cinderella.

The mother-in-law and his girl gave the difficult things to Mara to do. A mother-in-law of Mara of day gave to Mara a huge pile of wool to turn. Mara must does that for this day. She went to the meadow and she turned wool. On the day end she saw that a pile was huge nevertheless. She began crying. The cow, that was his mother, came and asked it why she cried. Mara said that she did not dare to return to the house because she could not turn wool. After these words, the cow began chewing wool and the wire appeared of his ear. The injury of Mara in top the wire in a spool. She was happy and returned to the house. The mother-in-law was astonished and she did not say does not import what. The next day that she gave Mara more of wool to turn than the day before. Mara and his mother did even that the day before and Mara again was succeeded. The third mother-in-law of Mara of day followed Mara and the saw how she turns wool.

Few next days, the mother-in-law of Mara demanded father of Mara to kill a cow that was the mother of Mara. It said that it would do that. Mara heard that and she cried for the entire day. She said his mother that his former husband would go to do. The mother of Mara said: '' Not to worry. Themselves they kill me, you will not eat my meat. You must collect my bones and bury under two rocks behind to the house'.' The father of Mara of next day killed the cow. Mara did not eat meat. She buried the bones of the mother under the rocks. When she had the difficult time she went to this place and to the assistance found.

After few month, a Sunday, the prince came to a town church on the liturgy. It was beautiful and looked for a woman. The mother-in-law of Mara and his girl did a disorder, launched to the house of the millet and went everywhere in the house to the church. The missions of Mara cleaned the house, choosing millet and prepare the lunch. After she did that she could go to the church. When she remained only, she went to the tomb of the mother. On the tomb were the can with the dresses and two white pigeons. The pigeons said it that they do for all to do. She carried a dress of silk and went to the church. She was the girl more beautiful in the church. The prince saw it and fell in love. Before the liturgy finished she left for the house. When she returned she changed the dress and sat on his place. The mother-in-law and his girl returned and that asked the girl was. They were astonished because the house was cleaned, the millet was chosen and eats was prepared.

The next prince of Sunday came again to the church. The mother-in-law of Mara did the biggest mass and more of millet brought then eight days ago. She gave to Mara it same mission and went to the church. Mara went again to the tomb of the mother. She carried a dress in money and went to the church. All people looked at it. When she left for the house, the prince followed it. But she disappeared. She returned and the changed dress. The mother-in-law and his girl were furious because the prince fell in the love with the other girl. They again were astonished because Mara did all. Mara smiled and did his work.

Third Sunday, the same history repeated again. But this time Mara lost a slipper in now. The prince found the slipper and said that it does to marry a girl of which the slipper was.

Every girl in the country tried a slipper. But someone of them slipper was small, someone was huge. At last, the prince came to the house of Mara. The mother-in-law said that his girl was only the girl to the house. The slipper was too small for his foot. The prince saw the other slipper under a depression. It raised the Mara of depression and saws in the dress in now with a slipper. It put his foot his other slipper and took it in his castle.

It married it and they lived fortunately never after.
